New ! Box Lacrosse League
Box Lacrosse is played inside a boarded arena like a hockey rink.  The ball bounces off the floor and the walls like crazy, so the game is considerably faster than Field Lacrosse.  The teams are smaller in number -- we usually play 5v5 instead of 8 to 10 per team.  And the goal is much smaller than a Field Lacrosse goal so it is harder to score. The reason we are doing Box Lacrosse leagues is tied directly to our mission of helping Michigan players improve.  And Box Lacrosse will help you improve a lot.  Here's why:
1. Improved Stick Skills: To be successful playing box lacrosse, you have to have sharp, tight stickwork.  Things like "hanging your stick" or floating passes that you may be able to get away with outdoor, won't work in the box.  If the ball gets checked away enough times, you will change how you hold your stick and carry the ball.

2. Off-Ball Movement: Team offense is key in box lacrosse.  This includes learning to set picks, best ways to cut and get open.  Players without the ball are as important if not more important than the player with the ball.

3. Body Position: Whether you play attack, midfield or defense, you will have to play defense.  You will get key repetitions in breaking down and getting in good body position.  For the boys, we do not allow long poles.  This means you have to rely on your footwork and positioning.

4.Shot Selection: When you play in closer spaces, everything is packed in.  Defenders, your teammates, free space comes at a premium.  Playing box helps you learn what the difference is between an "ok" shot and a great shot.
